A Dedicated Program for the RUO Peptide Market
Product liability coverage for research use only (RUO) peptides has always been hard to place. Most standard commercial policies exclude unapproved substances, and a claim that alleges human use or off-label application can fall into a coverage gap precisely when the business needs its policy most.
We now offer a dedicated insurance program built specifically for RUO peptide distributors, suppliers, and manufacturers — with tiered pricing so businesses at different revenue and exposure levels can find a structure that fits, and coverage modifications designed around the real-world risks of the RUO market.
Below is the program's tier structure and what's included at every level. Limits, pricing, and availability are indicative and subject to underwriting; final terms are set by the carrier in the policy itself.
Tier Structure: Pricing & Limits
All four tiers share a $5,000 each-claim deductible. The difference is how much limit each option carries, and the base premium that matches it:
| Tier | Each Claim Limit | General Aggregate | Products / Completed Ops Aggregate | Personal & Advertising Injury | Each Claim Deductible | Base Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Option 1 | $1,000,000 | $2,000,000 | $2,000,000 | $1,000,000 | $5,000 | $75,000 |
| Option 2 | $500,000 | $500,000 | $500,000 | $500,000 | $5,000 | $37,500 |
| Option 3 | $200,000 | $400,000 | $400,000 | $200,000 | $5,000 | $15,000 |
| Option 4 | $100,000 | $200,000 | $200,000 | $100,000 | $5,000 | $7,500 |
How to think about the tiers:
- Option 4 ($7,500 base premium) — an entry point for smaller research-chemical sellers getting their first product liability policy in place. It establishes coverage and a retroactive date while keeping cost down.
- Option 3 ($15,000 base premium) — a middle structure for established distributors with steady order volume who want meaningfully more aggregate.
- Option 2 ($37,500 base premium) — for larger suppliers and manufacturers whose contracts, marketplaces, or wholesale customers require higher limits.
- Option 1 ($75,000 base premium) — the fullest structure, with $1M per claim and a $2M general aggregate, for operations with substantial revenue, broad distribution, or customers that require top-tier limits.
Many sellers start at a lower tier and scale up as revenue grows or customer contracts demand more. Moving up later is a straightforward endorsement conversation — the harder problem is having no coverage at all when a demand letter arrives.
Included Across All Tiers
Beyond the core limits above, every tier includes:
- Damage to Premises Rented to You: $100,000 — coverage for rented warehouse or lab space you occupy.
- Employee Benefits Liability: $1,000,000 / $1,000,000 ($2,500 deductible) — protection for errors in administering employee benefit programs.
- Data Breach Expense Reimbursement: $5,000 aggregate on Option 1 / $100,000 aggregate on Options 2–4 ($2,500 deductible) — response costs if customer or order data is compromised.
- Medical Payments Coverage: $100,000 on Option 1 / $5,000 on Options 2–4.
Human Use & Research Use Exposure Coverage
This is the modification that makes the program what it is.
Defense and indemnity impact. Standard product liability policies often exclude unapproved substances or off-label applications. This program provides coverage for claims arising from products regardless of FDA approval status.
Scope of exposure covered. The modification explicitly preserves coverage for products marketed as Research Use Only (RUO), as well as claims alleging human use, off-label use, or consumer misuse.
In practice, this addresses the scenario we described in our earlier article on RUO peptide lawsuits and coverage readiness: a buyer misuses a research product, a claim follows, and the insurer's first move under a standard policy is to argue the substance was never an approved product in the first place. With this modification, the human-use allegation itself doesn't strip the policy away.
It is not a license to ignore underwriting. Carriers still evaluate your storefront gating, labeling, certifications, and operational controls — the website and operational compliance guidelines we published earlier are exactly what underwriters want to see from applicants in this program.
Who the Program Fits
- RUO peptide distributors — wholesale and direct-to-research-lab sellers who need product liability that doesn't evaporate when a claim mentions human use.
- Suppliers and resellers — businesses importing or reselling research chemicals who need limits that match customer contract requirements.
- Manufacturers — operations producing research-grade compounds who want defense coverage regardless of FDA approval status.
Important Caveats
This article describes a program structure, not a binding quote. Base premiums shown are indicative starting points — final pricing depends on underwriting review of your products, sales channels, revenue, website, and operational controls. Coverage is subject to policy terms, conditions, and exclusions, and the policy language controls. No program can guarantee that a specific claim will be paid.
